Class Descriptions for Summer 2007
Beginning Glassblowing - An exciting five week class offering 15 hours of start-up level instruction in a small class (4-6 people environment). This class meets once a week or five weeks from 7-10 pm. This class includes a detailed introduction to the physics of glassmaking and glassblowing equipment. You will learn basic glassblowing techniques, such as how to gather glass from the furnace and shape the glass using a variety of glassblowing tools.
Intermediate Glassblowing - Perfect for anyone who has taken a previous workshop or five week class. This class meets once a week for five weeks from 7-10 pm. This class is designed for the person who has already completed a Beginning Glassblowing class at Janke Studios or another facility. You will learn how to work with color and how to use more complex glassblowing tools and techniques. Class size - 4-6 people.
Beginning Workshop - A condensed version of the Beginning Glassblowing class, perfect for those with busy schedules. The weekend workshop meets from 2-6 pm Saturday and Sunday. This class is designed for the person who wants to learn basic glassblowing techniques, but can't commit to a five week class. The workshop includes an introduction to the physics of glassmaking and glassblowing equipment.
Hot Glass Experience - A one-day course including a demo, followed by each participant working with the glass to their comfort level. Learn the process or direct the process in the creation of your own paperweight or tumbler.
Other Classes We Offer Throughout the Year
Paperweight Workshop - A one-day course that allows the glass enthusiast to experience the medium of glass through the creation of up to three paperweights. These paperweights make unique and unusual gifts.
Advanced Glassblowing - Perfect for anyone who has taken a previous workshop or five week class. This class meets once a week for five weeks from 7-10 pm. This class is designed for the person who has already completed the Beginning and Intermediate Glassblowing classes at Janke Studios or another facility. We will go strictly "by the book" as the true glass enthusiast perfects their craftsmanship and use of color. The book and first bar of color are supplied. Class size - 4-6 people.
Ornament Workshop (seasonal) - Just in time for the holidays, a one-day Ornament Workshop where you will learn how to make colorful ornaments using clear, crystal and colored glass. These ornaments make great gifts!
Glassblowing Class Policy
Class Fees - The prices for classes are announced in three-month interval schedules. Private group class pricing for groups of four or more is quoted at the time of purchase. Full payment for private group classes is required and will yield a discount. Class price increases will be announced on the website three months prior to the increase. The Studio will be forced to cancel a course if it is not filled two weeks prior to the beginning date. All registration fees will be returned in the event of a course cancellation.
Class Refund Policy - Refunds will be made with the following restrictions:
a) Student Withdrawal ($20 cancellation fee per person, per course) - Student must
notify Janke Studios no later than three (3) business days before the first class.
No refunds will be given once the class begins.
b) Janke Studios Cancellation - The Studio will be forced to cancel a course if it is not
filled two weeks prior to the beginning date. All registration fees will be returned in the
event of a course cancellation.
Make-up Classes - Janke Studios is not responsible for classes missed due to student absence. Make-up classes can be scheduled based on availability when the student gives prior notification to their instructor or at the discretion of Mr. Janke or the Gallery Manager.
Guests - Guests of students or glassblowers are not allowed to be working in the Hot Shop without:
a) Informing the Gallery Manager or Mr. Janke that a guest will be in the Hot Shop.
b) Explaining the guest's reason for being there. Anyone working in the Hot Shop must
have a signed liability waiver on file.
Student Waivers - No student is allowed in the Hot Shop without a signed liability waiver.
Note: A new waiver must be signed by everyone, every year. Also for glassblowers, a checklist of shop procedures and expectations will be presented for signature.
